We are heading towards the end of November people, which means your holiday shopping should be somewhere on your radar, if you haven’t started yet. Danni and I find that the Mojo and Moxie holiday gift guides are MOST REQUESTED – so this year we are gifting YOU with not just one – but two super unique guides to help you on your way…
If you missed it – we started November off with a bang with our 2020 Gift Guide for Teen and Young Adult Girls. Of course, with the introduction of that – we got the usual requests for gift ideas for teen boys, husbands, and just general uniqueness…
Well – this year we felt compelled to create a “Shop Local” list of some of our fav. shops here in YYC. Our local businesses need us terribly right now, and we want to support them, and a thriving economy in our hometown.
If you don’t live in Calgary – don’t panic – many of the retailers we’ve mentioned below have fantastic online stores AND the benefit of shopping with a small business is that if you give them a call – they are more than likely to have support, advice, and products you need and will get them to you with a smile.
Of course, this list is just a sampling of some of the great businesses we have had the pleasure of checking out this year, but nevertheless a helpful start for your holiday shopping….

I know many of us are looking for fun stocking stuffers for our young adult children or husbands. This is always a tough one, right?

Did you know you can buy the Worlds Best Boxer’s right here in Calgary?
Devon and Lang have the BEST most comfy boxer’s out there – perfect for long runs, or just long days. Since I’m not a guy (!) I don’t get the whole “pouch comfort” thing, but I’m going to take my hubby’s word for it and say it’s pretty important. This year every male in the house is getting a few of these gems. Love the colours, and love that they are local.

I think of this shop as all things feminine and beautiful. Cinder and Sage features beautiful jewelry, unique hair accessories, and special travel cases and bags just to get you started. We also love their unique Christmas ornaments and fun home goods.

Another local venture we love and came across at the Peak to Prairie Market a couple of weeks ago. I couldn’t resist buying a hat for a certain someone on my list who is way cooler than me but I always seem to find the perfect gift for. Love these hats created by another fantastic YYC entrepreneur. If you’ve got university or high school aged boys… think about adding one of these hats to their stocking.

I came across Penny Fausta while visiting another local business in the area and I am now hooked. In its very basic-ness Penny Fausta is a pharmacy. But this is not your neighbourhood Shoppers. Penny Fausta is stocked with all sorts of wonderfully unique items thoughtfully curated and displayed.
I love this place. While you can get all of your standard “drug store” fare – Penny Fausta makes going to pick up your prescriptions an adventure. I dare say you could fill quite a few stockings here alone…

OMG – are you not just dying to try one of those cool Hot Chocolate Balls that everyone is making these days? Well – we’ve got you covered with our fav local chocolate shop. This Christmas they’ve got delicious chocolate goodies as usual (their Advent Calendars are already completely sold out for the season) – but they’ve also created the sought after Hot Chocolate snowball. You can’t tell me you don’t want one?

Writing a list of all the places Danni and I love in YYC was pretty hard. There are so many wonderful, creative small businesses here in Calgary we couldn’t possibly list ALL of our favorites. The one thing I think we all recognize this year is that it is more important than ever to SHOP LOCAL. Let’s get out there – or “google” small businesses in YYC and shop online from these local businesses. They need us now more than ever – and if we want Calgary to stay vibrant and entrepreneurial, we need to show them some love!
